NOTES:  Alright...now you must be wondering what the heck this is.  Well, while watching the first episode of Samurai X (the OAV for Rurouni  Kenshin), Shinigami started typing some of the quotes.  Problem was, the introduction to Samurai X was one long!  So between the two of us (Shini did most of it cause she types faster and is good at getting stuff down after listening to it once) we were able to get down the whole introduction (I know we have no lives).  Then I took what we had and while watching the intro again I wrote down the description of the scenes.

(Shini's favorite quote is the first sentence said by Master Hiko...she wanted me to add that.)

This is one big FAT spoiler for the intro to Samurai X (it is the intro).  So don't read it if you don't wanna know about the intro.  For those who want to get nice taste of the OAV and blood  (llllllloooooootttttttttsssssss of blood) can go right ahead.

SAMURAI X

HIKO: The moon peers down on a diseased world.

[It is night with the light of a full moon shining down on a man sitting by himself drinking sake. The man looks up at the sky for a moment before standing up and leaving in a hurry]

[There is a small caravan walking under that same full moon.  Men and women walk together, some pulling a large wagon with supplies in it.  There is a child with them, a small boy with red hair who holds in his little hand a wooden top.  He glances up at a young women who is looking down kindly at him and smiles back comfortingly.]

[A sword flashes in the long grass where the caravan is passing]

HIKO: There is no cure for the disease… an entire race vaults mindlessly into destruction.  Not even a man of colossal power would be able to prevent the inevitable.

[The people of the caravan start screaming in terror, running for their lives as they are attacked by men wielding swords and spears.  They are hacked mercilessly, their bodies flung to the dirt, their blood seeping out beneath them.  One woman is stabbed in the back and is flung down face forward, and as she dies she whispers…]

WOMAN:  Save him…save Shinta…save him…please…

[There is nothing left of the caravan but the slaughtered bodies and their blood splattered everywhere.  The last man is cut down, and the murderers approach the small red haired boy who now holds a sword too large for him to lift.  He stands breathing heavily, eyes wide and filled with rage as three young women cower behind him.  He makes a move to lunge, but is grabbed by one of the young women and is yanked back.  The young woman cradles his face, trying to cover him, with her sister clutching her with trembling hands…]

[The boy continues to stare from beneath the young woman’s arms as one of the girls jump up pleadingly toward one of the men…]

GIRL:  Please! Don’t hurt him…

[She is cut down without a second thought…and the woman holding him tries to cover his eyes]

SISTER: Shinta don’t look…!

OTHER SISTER: Oh my dear sister no!

[The other sister is slaughtered, and the young woman holding the boy surges forward, her sister’s blood drenching her back, yet still shielding the child from the carnage.  The boy looks up and stares at the woman who speaks urgently yet soothingly at him as her tears fall onto his face…]

SISTER:  Shinta, Shinta you must listen to me…you’re life has not been chosen for you so you must live.  Listen, our fates have been decided tonight, but you must survive to honor those who did not…

[She is grabbed by the hair and yanked up off Shinta, yet she still speaks…]

SISTER:  Save yourself…

[Shinta lies in shock and looks up to see one of the men drive his sword straight through the young woman’s throat.  Tears continued to slide down her cheeks as she raised her hands feebly and clutches the blade that is covered in her own blood.  The murderer withdraws the blade and allows the sister to collapse down to the ground…Shinta continues to stare with wide eyes as the sister continues to speak as she lies dying…]

SISTER:  Please live… live for me… you must never give up...

MAN:  Silence!

[The man stabs down savagely, twisting the blade for good measure, then lifts the sword again once the she stops her soft pleas to Shinta.  Shinta continues to stare at the dead woman, ignoring the murderer as he comes to stand hulking over him, sword raised and ready to plunge down, with a feral and malicious grin on his flat face…]

[Suddenly there is a sound from behind and the man stops and looks back to see his comrades all killed by one man alone]

MAN:  Who are you?

HIKO:  You won’t be alive long enough to remember my name.

[The man lunges at Hiko with an animalistic scream, but Hiko, with four swipes of his sword, slices him into three pieces, his body parts and blood fly everywhere except on him, who had not even moved a step in defense.]

[Hiko starts to clean his sword with a white cloth. As he does this he looks at Shinta kneeling, staring at the bodies of the three girls. Hiko speaks]

HIKO: I don’t know why I happen by this place, be glad I did.  You may hate these murderers but that will not bring your family back.  Let your survival be your family’s memorial.

[He turns to leave, but pauses to look back at the small boy sitting amidst the carnage, sighs and continues to walk away]

HIKO: Death no longer terrifies man, the smell of blood is as common as the smell of white plums.  So he creates slavery and savagery, which surpass the horrors of dying, these can only be fought with more bloodshed and the cycle never ends.

[Night is gone, and dawn has come bathing the world in a reddish color]

HIKO: My sword is guided by the reason of Hiten Mitsurugi, yet when all is said a sword is a tool of destruction, not salvation.  The only way I can maintain my humanity is to bury its victims.

[He returns to the place where he had left the bodies of the dead and his eyes widen in shock.  The sky was as red blood and wherever he looked wooden graves scattered could be seen. In the middle of this sad graveyard is Shinta, standing alone staring at three graves with rocks instead of wood, tear stains on his cheeks]

HIKO: You’ve dug graves for your family and their murderers

SHINTA: This wasn’t my family they were slave traders, I was sold to them after my parents died.  Last night they stopped being traders or murderers they were all just victims.

HIKO: And these stones?

SHINTA: Sakura, Kasumi, Akane.  I only them for a few days, but they protected me like I was their own.  I am just a boy but I should have protected them.  They’re gone.  I have to live because they died for me.

[Shinta looks up into the bloody sky and his voice breaks in grief]

SHINTA: I wanted their graves to be beautiful, all I could find are these ugly rocks but it’s the best I can do.  I wish I had flowers.  They all deserved flowers.

[Hiko pulls out his jug of sake and pours its contents onto the three small stones]

HIKO: No one should reach nirvana without the taste of good sake on his lips. This is my tribute to them.

SHINTA:  Thank you uh --

HIKO:  Soujiro Hiko, learn the name of your new master.

SHINTA:  Hmm…

HIKO:  Listen you are unable to save the lives of the women who took care of you.  Now you inner self is laden with their memories.  Your small hands can attest for the weight of their lifeless bodies.  However you will learn that their memories are heavier and carrying them will make you stronger.  This new strength will be your defense and aid you in the protection of that which is truly important.  But this can only happen if you are properly trained.

SHINTA:  Properly…trained…

HIKO:  Tell me your name?

SHINTA:  Shinta

HIKO:  A child’s name. Too soft for a swordsman.  As of today, you are Kenshin.

SHINTA:  Ken…shin…

HIKO:  I have found a pupil.  Consider yourself fortunate.

[They are two now standing with the blood red sky above them, surrounded by graves of the dead of who had murdered and had been murdered]
